What information we collect

We collect only what the site needs to work and to let you take part in it.

Information you give us

  • Account and profile information. If you register, we collect your name or username, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), and any details you choose to add to your public profile, such as a photo, bio, or location.
  • Content you submit. Posts, resources, listings, reviews, comments, and any other material you add to the site. Remember that most of this is published publicly by design.
  • Messages you send. If you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, and whatever you write.
  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to updates, we collect your email address and manage it through our email provider.

Information collected automatically

  • Log and device data. Like most websites, our hosting and security systems automatically record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This is used for security, troubleshooting, and understanding general site usage.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See the Cookies section below.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and public profile.
  • Publish and display the content, listings, and reviews you submit.
  • Respond to your messages and requests.
  • Send you updates or newsletters, if you have asked to receive them.
  • Keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and fix problems.
  • Understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, protect against spam and abuse, and, where applicable, understand how the site is used. Some cookies are set by the third-party services listed below.

Where required by law, we show a consent banner so you can accept or decline non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time through that banner. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly if you do. For a detailed, current list of the specific cookies in use, please see our Cookie Policy.

Service providers we rely on

We use trusted third-party services to run the site. Each receives only the information it needs to perform its function, and each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data. These currently include:

  • Hosting and infrastructure (our web host), which stores the site and its data and keeps server logs.
  • Email delivery and marketing (Brevo, and Mailchimp where used), which process email addresses to send account messages and newsletters.
  • Spam protection (Akismet), which checks comments and form submissions for spam and may process the associated data.
  • Security (Wordfence), which monitors traffic and login attempts and logs IP addresses to protect the site.
  • Bot protection (Google reCAPTCHA) on forms such as registration and login, which is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

We may add, remove, or change providers over time and will update this Policy accordingly.

Affiliate links and recommendations

Some links on this site, particularly to books and family resources, may be affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions help support the site. We only recommend resources we believe are genuinely useful, and an affiliate relationship never changes the honesty of what we say about a resource. Clicking an affiliate link may allow the destination retailer to set its own cookies, governed by that retailer’s privacy policy.

How we share information

We share personal information only in these limited situations:

  • Publicly, by your choice. Your profile and the content you post are visible to other visitors, because that is the point of a community site. Do not post anything you want to keep private.
  • With the service providers listed above, so they can perform their functions on our behalf.
  • To comply with the law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of the site, our users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer, if the site is ever sold or merged, in which case your information may be among the assets transferred.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Children’s privacy

This site is about raising children on a vegan diet, but it is written for and directed at adults: parents, parents-to-be, and the professionals who support them. It is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. In particular, we do not knowingly allow anyone under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in their country, such as 16 in parts of Europe) to create an account or submit personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Access and update your account and profile information at any time by logging in.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any such email.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting us.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. We honor these rights regardless of where you live, as far as is practicable. To make a request, please contact us, and we may need to verify your identity before we act on it.

Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the site, and afterward only as long as necessary to meet legal, security, or record-keeping obligations. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information, though publicly posted content may remain unless you also ask us to remove it, and backups and logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), a security firewall, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your own password confidential.

International visitors

The site is operated from the United States, and your information will be processed there and in any country where our service providers operate. Data protection laws in these countries may differ from those where you live. By using the site, you consent to this transfer and processing.

Our site links to other sites, including VeganLinked.com and various external resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of sites we do not operate. Please review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top, and significant changes may be highlighted on the site. Your continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
