Ingredients:
- 1 small apple (preferably organic)
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (you can use canned pumpkin puree, but ensure it’s 100% pumpkin with no added sugars or spices)
- 1 cup water
- A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Apple: Wash, peel, and core the apple. Cut the apple into small pieces to ensure it cooks quickly and evenly.
2. Cook the Apple: Place the apple pieces in a small saucepan with 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the apple pieces are soft and tender.
3. Combine with Pumpkin: Once the apple pieces are cooked, let them cool slightly. Place the cooked apple pieces and the pumpkin puree into a blender or food processor. Add a pinch of cinnamon if desired.
4. Blend the Ingredients: Blend until you achieve a smooth puree. You can add a little more water if the mixture is too thick, adjusting the consistency as needed for your baby.
5. Serve: Ensure the puree is at a safe temperature before serving. Start with a small spoonful to see how your baby reacts.
Storage:
You can store any leftover puree in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze the puree in small portions using an ice cube tray. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container and use within 1 month.
Nutritional Benefits:
- Apple: High in vitamins C and A, and provides dietary fiber which aids in digestion.
- Pumpkin: Rich in beta-carotene, vitamins A and C, and fiber. It also contains potassium and iron.
- Cinnamon (Optional): Adds a touch of flavor and contains antioxidants, but use sparingly as infants have sensitive palates.
Tips:
Always consult with your pediatrician before introducing new foods to your baby. Introduce one new food at a time and watch for any signs of allergic reactions. Ensure the texture is appropriate for your baby’s age and readiness for solids.
